UARE Winter 2027

UARE Call (University of Alberta Research Experience) - WINTER 2027

The UARE offers final-year undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in a research stay and gain experience in their field of interest at the University of Alberta. Beneficiary students will receive a scholarship of $6,000 CAD from the University of Alberta, which will help cover the costs associated with participating in the 12-week program.

This call does not apply to the undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering. We invite interested students to consult the research stay opportunities available with the International Relations Office of the Colombian School of Engineering: ori@escuelaing.edu.co 

  • July 19 – August 4, 2026: Eligible students from partner institutions may review the 22 available research projects on Horizons and submit their application through the official UARE Google Application Form. Applications opened on July 19, and the deadline is August 4 at 11:59 p.m. (Mountain Time).
  • August 5, 2026 onwards: Preliminary eligibility screening of applicants
  • Late August 2026: Ranking of eligible applicants by project supervisors
  • September 2026: Internship offers sent to selected applicants; accepted offers proceed with ISVS staff requesting signatures on documents and initiating invitation procedures
  • October 2026: Upon receipt of authorized Invitation Letter from host supervisor and department, immigration instructions and required documentation sent to selected applicants
  • January 5, 2027: Internships begin (start date may be flexible, depending on supervisor and immigration application timelines). Placements are for 12 consecutive weeks from start date.

1. Be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program 

2. Have the approval/permission of their home university to participate in UARE 

3. Completed at least 2 years of their undergraduate program and/or be entering 3rd or 4th year of study 

4. Have a minimum GPA equivalent to a B average (3.0 on a 4-point scale), although a higher GPA is recommended to remain competitive.

5. Suitable proficiency in English to perform research (a formal English test result is not required to apply) 

6. Students who have previously received UARE scholarships are not eligible.

Interested students have to complete the following Application form.

Documentation for Application:

  • Updated resume in English (max. 1 page) 
  • Motivation letter in English detailing the following information: General information about the student (name, academic program, semester, and any other relevant information the committee should know); The reason why the student wishes to apply to the University of Alberta and the UARE scholarship. 
  • Recommendation letter (in English) from a professor at the university. 
  • Official transcript indicating cumulative GPA. This can be obtained through SIAR, with an approximate cost of $17,000 COP. The official transcript must be translated into English by a certified translator.

  • Applicants should review the 22 available research projects published on Horizons before completing the application form.

IMPORTANT: This call for applications is an individual application process managed directly by the offering institution and not through Universidad del Rosario. However, you are required to register your application with the Vice Presidency for International Affairs by completing the following form: https://forms.cloud.microsoft/r/FyL11c80ax 

The UARE scholarship corresponds to a monetary support offered directly by the University of Alberta. For this call, the support amounts to $6,000 CAD for the 12 weeks of the research stay.

 IMPORTANT: This money will be provided to the selected student upon arrival in Canada, so the student must have sufficient resources for preparations before the trip and for the first weeks of stay in the country. The University of Alberta will determine the process for how the funds will be delivered.
