This course aims to explore the complexity inherent in the impacts of migratory flows in cities from an interdisciplinary perspective combined with the discipline of public policies in conjunction with the areas of knowledge in political science, international relations, economics, sociology and urban studies. The course is relevant given the current situation in Colombia where the increase in migration from Venezuela to cities in Colombia means and will mean a structural change in urban transformation in the country that required multiple public policies and coordinated government actions with all social actors to ensure that the benefits always remain above the detriments. Migration is an essential part of the growth and constant transformation of cities, but at times the rates exceed the sustainable levels of migration and disrupt the stable demographic structure of a place; These processes are traditionally presented to scenarios of wars, conflicts, violence or economic, environmental or ethnic crises.

Throughout history the urban impacts of migration have left traces and experience allows us to understand the challenges they face in situations of this type that are useful to think the challenges from new approaches that Colombian cities have in the coming years. Colombia was a population expeller in recent decades and now becomes a recipient of migratory flows that, although from the same country of origin, are anything but homogeneous. Therefore, it is intended to explore the Colombian migration process from its process as an expeller and as a receiver considering the challenges involved in urban spaces where the vast majority of the population is located and based on public policies that can be derived either at the national, regional or specifically local level.
